Christina Ricci sold her handbag collection to pay for James Heerdegen divorce

Christina Ricci could start a resale business.

The actress, 42, revealed she traded in her handbag collection in order to pay for her contentious divorce from James Heerdegen, whom she split from in 2020.

“There are certain things that I have collected, certain bags. I had quite a Chanel handbag collection for a while, but I sold a lot of things,” Ricci told The Sunday Times.

When asked what sparked her closet clean-out, she explained, “Well, certain traumas in life go along with financial traumas, extended court situations, custody situations, fighting restraining orders.”

She continued, “Having said that, I’m absolutely doing fine, there’s no issue. But I learned to use these investment pieces in different ways. I also had a Chanel Fine Jewellery collection that I put to good use.”

Ricci and Heerdegen filed restraining orders against each other — with hers granted and his denied — amid their tumultuous split, with allegations of domestic abuse. They share 8-year-old son Frederick “Freddie” Heerdegen and reached a custody agreement in April 2021. They wed in 2013.

In August 2021, Ricci revealed she was pregnant with her second child, a daughter named Cleo, and married the baby’s father, Mark Hampton, in October.

In terms of where her collection stands these days, Ricci said she prefers not to invest in fashion any longer, but that Hampton has taken to eBay to source vintage magazine covers starring Ricci.

“I think it is important to say that I don’t feel like a victim in any way. I don’t feel sorry for myself,” she clarified.

“Everybody has their personal issues and this has been mine, and it has been about finding my own self-worth and position and strength and power.”
