Presidential purple for the win.
Mindy Kaling wore bright jewel tones as she received the National Medal of Arts from President Biden in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, bringing her 5-year-old daughter, Katherine Swati, along for the proud moment.
The “Office” star posted a series of photos of herself in head-to-toe purple at the White House on Instagram yesterday, sharing how it “didn’t feel real” to receive the award, which is the highest honor given to those who have made a contribution to the arts in the United States.
Kaling, 43, looked chic — and matched the ribbon of her new medal — as she sported a short-sleeved Monique Lhuillier mini dress for her big day, pairing it with pumps in a lighter lavender shade and covering up with a fuzzy pink coat.

She carried a purple Oscar de la Renta Swarovski crystal-covered Mini Flower Bag ($4,990), giving fans a closer look at the clutch — and her Cartier watch — in one photo.
The “Mindy Show” star added dangling gemstone earrings, a diamond band and a gemstone bracelet to complete her White House look.
Meanwhile, Katherine, aka “Kit,” wore a frilly white dress, white ankle socks and glittery silver shoes for her mom’s special moment.

“A little while ago, I got a call from Dr. Maria Rosario Jackson that the National Endowment of the Arts and the office of the President wanted to give me the National Medal of Arts for my work in television and as an author,” Kaling captioned her post.
Adding that she was “still processing how to receive the news,” the comedian shared that it “was almost too much to take in” when she heard President Biden talk about her family and “their journey to the United States.”
Her late mother was on Kaling’s mind, with the star pointing to the sky and beaming in one photo, while writing, “I wish my mom could have been there, but what are you gonna do.”

Kaling joined several other famous faces who received medals yesterday, including Vera Wang, Bruce Springsteen, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and an iconic singer, with the author adding “it didn’t feel real! I mean, I was sitting next to GLADYS KNIGHT.”
Her White House honor comes after the screenwriter and producer showed off her recent weight loss on the Oscars 2023 red carpet, rocking two different shades of the same gown from fellow National Medal of Arts winner Vera Wang.
As for her meeting with the President, Kaling said, “Nothing is perfect, but yesterday was pretty close.”
